Where We Work

We’re proud to partner with communities across East Africa to support foundational learning.

Our approach

90% of 10-year-olds in Sub-Saharan Africa can’t read a simple text. We partner with communities and schools across Uganda and Rwanda to change this, and improve literacy and numeracy for all children.

More than one million learners reached across East Africa

70.5% of learners achieve their minimum proficiency level in literacy

25,000+ Community Education Volunteers recruited

Where we’re making an impact

We’re relentlessly determined to improve learning, starting at the community level. Our work started in Uganda in 2006. In 2025, we grew our impact to Rwanda.

Building Tomorrow Uganda

Since 2006, we’ve increased education access and outcomes in Uganda. Our community-powered Roots to Rise program was born and developed here. To date, we’ve supported 47 districts.

Building Tomorrow Rwanda

We’re partnering with communities in Rwanda to offer our Roots to Rise literacy and numeracy program. In 2025, we selected our inaugural cohort of BT Rwanda Fellows to support this work.

Support education in East Africa

No matter where they live, the need is clear: all children, everywhere, deserve the chance to learn.
